Ad Placement Policies
Ad placement rules: no deceptive labelling, no functionality impairment, 30% max ad density, one sticky unit per page, no consecutive ads, and Google's 3-banner-per-page limit.
Beyond site content requirements, demand partners and GAM have specific standards for how and where ads may be placed on a page. Violating these standards reduces demand partner fill and CPMs, and in serious cases, triggers account action.
Placement rules
Ads must not be deceptive
- Do not label ads in a way that makes them look like editorial content ("Recommended articles", "Editor's picks") without a clear "Sponsored" or "Advertisement" label.
- Do not place ads immediately adjacent to download buttons, navigation links, or CTAs in a way that could cause accidental clicks.
- Do not resize or obscure ads once they have loaded.
Ads must not impair site functionality
- Ads must not cover the main content of the page without the user's action.
- Interstitials (full-page ads that appear before content) may only be used on specific events (e.g. page transitions), not on initial page load.
- Do not disable browser back button navigation or prevent page scrolling to force ad exposure.
Ad density limits
- Maximum one sticky unit per page. One sticky footer or one floating ad unit per page is the limit. Multiple sticky units simultaneously obscure content.
- No more ads than content. The total ad area on a page should not exceed 30% of the visible content area. Pages that are primarily ads with minimal content are rejected by demand partners.
- Minimum content between consecutive ads. Two ad units must not be placed immediately adjacent to each other with no content between them.
Above-the-fold restrictions
- Do not place more than one ad above the fold on mobile devices. The above-the-fold area is premium real estate for content, not ads.
- The first content the visitor sees must be meaningful editorial content, not an ad.
Video ad placement
- Outstream video ads may not autoplay with sound enabled.
- One video ad unit per page is the recommended maximum.
- Instream video ads require genuine video content. Placing an instream ad unit on a page without a video player or real video content is prohibited.
Google-specific requirements
As AdX demand flows through Google Ad Manager, Google's Publisher Policies apply in addition to Advlume's. Key restrictions:
- No more than 3 AdSense/AdX banner units per page (Google's limit for display ads on a single page).
- No ads in pop-up or pop-under windows.
- No ads in emails.
- Ads must not be placed on error pages, parked domains, or pages with no content.
